On 18.02.2010 in Sofia an economic forum on subject: “Algeria’s economic climate – business and investment opportunities” was held, organized jointly by the Algerian Embassy in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meeting was opened by the official guests the Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Ivo Marinov and the Deputy Executive Director of InvestBulgaria Agency Borislav Stefanov. The focus of the event was in the opportunities for investments, tourism and business partnerships with representatives of Bulgarian companies, branch and other public organizations.
During the forum the ambassador of Algeria Mr. Ahmed Boutache said that the country is engaged to encourage the flow of investments and export activity. As an example he pointed out that in the past 5 years the local private investments have reached more than 6 billion dollars and the direct foreign investments exceed 10 billion dollars. “Energetics and construction are amongst the branches where Bulgaria and Algeria could co-operate. The private sector today realizes over 50% of the total amount of import of the country and about two thirds of the growth in the branches except the production and extraction of liquid fuel is due to it.”, stated His Excellency Ahmed Boutache. The diplomat added that EU countries are already present on the Algerian market. Poland was used as an example, with which contracts in the sphere of energetics were recently concluded.
The total exchange of merchandise of Bulgaria and Algeria for the year 2008 amounts to USD 88.1 million. The tendency for positive commercial balance for Bulgaria is preserved. For the 11 months of the year 2009 the total amount of the exchange of merchandise is USD 39.8 million, and in comparison to the same period last year it has increased with 21.4%. The import has increased with 24.5%, while the Bulgarian export has increased with 21.3%.
